UTILITY STATION LOG
I am considering any station that is not "International Broadcast"
to be a UTILITY station. The following loggings were made the week
of 9/8/85 .
FREQ. MODE TIME ID/INFO
4425.6 usb 0330 coast station WOM Ft.Lauderdale, telephone
8828 usb 0330 Honolulu Radio, weather for various locations
8867 usb 0330 aero communications
5598 usb 0430 heavy aero traffic, New York, San Juan
2670 usb 0500 coast guard weather broadcasts, Channel Island
6761 usb ANY very active military air channel (SAC ?)
6802 usb 0400 Remington numbers channel, 5-digit spanish YL
3895 lsb 0300 ham band outlaw network, using handles and
probable very high power. Most nights...
notes: "usb" and "lsb" refer to upper and lower sideband; if your
receiver does not have these mode settings, use the BFO control.
Times are in UTC (EST + 5 hours, EDT + 4 hours)
I will not attempt any discussion of the origin or purpose of the
"numbers" stations here; if you have comments or explanations of
your own, leave them in the tech/shortwave message section...
